Why Your Ideal Life Pace is a True Measure of Success
Welcome
How Do We Best Measure Success?
I’m an island girl by heart. Every time I’m on an island somewhere – whether its O’ahu, New Providence, Puerto Rico, or even Iceland – I feel infinitely comfortable. There’s something about it that draws me back. You’d think it’d be the climate, but no. Iceland wouldn’t be included in the grouping if it was… There’s just something about the lifestyle that suites me. As I have now figured out, it’s thepace – and that’s what turned out to be my main takeaway this past month.
Your ideal pace is the rhythm and intensity by which you live your life. I think every person has an ideal pace, and it’s one of the main things that make us either really happy, or really unhappy. Your internal pace has to match up with your external environment, so that you are primed for excellence in everything you do.
I don't want or need a lot of movement around me as I work. I thrive in environments that are low-stress, yet very productive and high-impact. My dear friend Jaleh Zandieh pointed out in this video that my leadership lens (a.k.a. superpower) is noticing how environments affects people and impacts their work. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that my true measure of success is being aligned to my ideal lifestyle pace. It's how I know I'm on the right track. How about you?
It's so easy to trick yourself into feeling successful when you’re actually not. A lot of us correlate success with money, status, and power, and while those are fine to have, are they really what you long for? Many of my clients come to me because they want more "freedom" and "spaciousness" in life, others because they want more time for their families... and yet when we look at how they prioritize, it tells a completely different story. Does yours?
How you measure success needs to be aligned with how you value yourself and how you approach your priorities. They can't be out of sync. If you want one thing, but work towards another, you will end up deeply unfulfilled. I don't want that for you (or for anyone!), so I encourage you to think about how you measure your own success. What is it now? What should it be?
Do you value success by how much money you earn?
By how much time you spend with family?
Or is it all about how others see you?
What is the number one thing you want and need in order to be successful, and why?
Answer that last question with clarity, and correct prioritization will never again be a problem for you.

My to-do list was full of projects that sat for weeks, months... a long time, and weren't getting done. The lightbulb moment was when I realized they didn't belong on that list at all.

Creating Space · December 2024 · Vol. 10 Mastering Your Emotional Self with Rationality isn't Easy... but Necessary. Welcome Look in the Mirror. If you were to ask me how I'd describe November 2024, it would probably be summed up in one grunt: Ugh. I don't know how else to express it. There was a lot of tension and turbulence in the air, but on the flip side, all the drama gave me the opportunity to reflect a lot on the battle between emotions and rationality. Who are we when we're dominated...
